Cuadro-joyero / Jewelry box

Hola a todos!! Después de mucho tiempo...vuelvo a publicar! Muchos ya sabéis de qué se trata pero quería de todos modos explicar cómo lo he hecho. 

Hi everyone! Since a lot of time ago...but I'm back! Most of you know what i am going to talk about but I wold like to explain you how i did it anyway

Esta vez se trata de un cuadro joyero. Estoy segura de que lo habéis visto más veces pero yo no podía quedarme sin hacer el mío. Puesto que mi madre tiene una tienda de decoración, acudí a la cristalería con la que trabaja en Vinaròs, La Cristalería Miralles. Le pregunté por un marco trabajado estilo barroco y me enseñó el de la foto.                                                                                                 This time it deals with a jewelry box. We are going to use a frame to do that. I'm sure you have seen it more times before . However, I had to do mine! As my mother works in a decorative home item shop I went to the glassware shop whom my mother works withh  in Vinaròs, La Cristalería Mirallles. I asked about a Baroque style frame and the girl shown the one which appears in the photo.

A pesar de ser de color negro era perfecto por su forma y tamaño. De todos modos lo teníamos que lijar y pintar más tarde. Tal y como veis en la foto, empezamos lijándolo para quitarle la capa de laca que lleva por encima. Así, cuando vayamos a pintarlo la pintura se adherirá perfectamente.                                                                         In spite of being black It was perfect due to its shape and size. Anyway we had to sand to remove the lacquer. Thus when we were to paint it the paint will stick on perfectly.

A continuación, seguimos aplicando una capa de pintura blanca, en este caso. He utilizado pintura acrílica. Si es necesario insistiremos en las zonas en las que se vea todavía el color negro. Tiene que quedar todo blanquito.                                                                                                                                                                     Next we follow applying one white paint layer, in this case. If necessary we will paint the dark spaces again. All the frame has to be covered.

Esta vez no dejaremos que se seque la pintura. Cogeremos un trapo e iremos retirando pintura sobre las zonas en las que anteriormente había color dorado. Podemos dejar al descubierto tantas zonas doradas como queramos. En mi caso, he descubierto el relieve de todo el cuadro. Una vez hayamos terminado dejamos que se seque la pintura. This time the paint has not to dry. We use a clean cloth to remove the paint and reveal the golden which was before. We can do that in all frame spaces we want. I have removed all the white paint that was in the relief. Then, we leave the paint to dry.

Lo siguiente será utilizar unas varillas que nos servirán de estantes desde donde colgar collares, gafas de sol, etc.  Las que yo compré no son muy gorditas. Se mide el ancho del cuadro y se cortan las varillas en la misma medida. Es posible que tengamos que lijarlas un poco en los extremos para que nos encajen mejor. Lo último será unir la varilla y el marco con unos pequeños clavos por la parte de atrás.                                                                                                                                                               Now, we are going to use some bars which will be used for hold necklaces, sunglasses, etc. I bought ones which were not very thick. We measure the width and then saw  the bars in the same size. Maybe we have to sand the bars on its ends in order to fit it in better. The last part will be to join the bars and the frame with littlle nails behind the frame.











Para hacer nuestro cuadro-joyero todavía más útil, he optado por pegar con cola rápida  una puntilla sobre algunas varillas para poder sujetar también pendientes. Además de que estéticamente creo que queda muy bien ;-)

Now we are going to do our frame more useful so we glue lace edging on some bars. Thus we will be able to hold some earrings there too. Also, I think it looks  prettier!!













Bueno os enseño el resultado final, a ver si os animáis a hacerlo. Es super fácil y queda super mono!

Busto / bust

Hola a todos!! Con algunos días de retraso pero....nuevo post!! Esta vez vamos a presentaros una pieza que hacía un tiempo que íbamos buscando y que al final conseguimos. Se trata de un busto. En este caso su cuerpo es de porexpan, la tapa del cuello y el  pie son de madera y la pieza que une en cuerpo con el pie de madera es de metal. Inicialmente pensamos en pintar únicamente la tapa del cuello y el pie de madera pero al final decidimos arriesgar. ;-)  Hi everyone! With some time delay but...new post!! This time we are going to show you an item we were looking for some time ago and, at the end, we got it!! It deals with a bust. In this case its boby is made of polystyrene, the neck cover and the base are made of wood and the piece, which joins the body and the base, is made of metal. At the beginning  we thought about paint only the neck cover and the wood base but finally we decided to run risk... ;-)

Así pues quitamos la tela y empezamos a customizar al completo el busto. Como el cuerpo de porexpan estaba tan mal, la única opción era cubrirlo y decidimos hacerlo con papel de periódico.
So we remove the clothing and start customizing completely the bust. As the polystyrene body was in such bad condition,  the only option was to cover it. So we decided to do it with newspaper.

En primer lugar preparamos la cola de empapelar, la extendemos con un pincel sobre los trozos de papel de periódico y los vamos colocando encima de la superficie de porexpan. Hacemos esto hasta cubrirlo todo. Id con cuidado de no dejar burbujas de aire bajo el papel. Hemos tenido que dejar que se seque varios días. Además, hemos tenido que volver a pegar algunos trozos de papel sobre aquellas partes que se habían agrietado durante el secado.  In first place we prepare the wallpaper glue, we spread it out on the newspaper pieces with a brush and we are going to put the pieces on the body up to cover it all.  Be careful of not to leave air bubble under the paper. We had to let it dry some days. Also, we had to glue again some parts which were cracked.

En nuestro caso el pie es de madera y vamos a pintarlo. Esta vez nos hemos decantado por un color dorado envejecido. Cuando esté todo bien cubierto, dejamos que se seque.
In our case, the base is made of wood and were are going to paint it. This time we decided to use an old gold  color. When everything is well covered, we let it dry. 







Con el cuerpo del busto seco y completamente cubierto,  el próximo paso será pintar por encima una especie de corsé o prenda interior femenina. Nos ha servido de inspiración el famosísimo perfume de Jean Paul Gaultier, Classique. 
With the bust body dryed and completely covered, the next step is going to be to paint over a type of corset or female underwear. We were inspired by the famous Jean Paul Gaultier perfume, Classique.







Lo primero que vamos a hacer a continuación va a ser dibujar con un lápiz el corsé e iremos borrando los trazos incorrectos. 
The first thing we are going to do next is to paint the corset with a pencil. At the same time we are going to erase the wrong lines.

Seguimos aplicando pintura acrílica. No pasa nada si quedan zonas donde se transparenta el periódico puesto que volveremos a dar una segunda pasada más adelante. Para rematar el escote y la parte de la espalda, dibujamos una especie de cenefa que imite una puntilla. 
We follow applying acrylic paint. Dont worry if there are some parts where you see the newspaper  because we have to paint it all a second time. To end the neckline and the back we paint a type of border which imitates a lace edging

Desde nuestro punto de vista, los bustos son artículos altamente decorativos y que, además, podéis utilizar para tener expuestos alguno de vuestros complementos preferidos: collares,  fulares, bolsos e incluso algún sombrero. 
We think busts are highly decorative items and also you can use them to show some of yours favourites complements like: necklaces, foulards, purses and even some hat.

Comprar una tela que os gustara y tapizar el busto o comprar pintura para tela y hacer el diseño a vuestro gusto sobre la tela original del busto.
To buy some clothing you like and cover the bust body or to buy some clothing paint to do a design you like on the original bust clothing.

En el caso de bustos con cuerpo de madera la mejor opción sería pintarlos. Mirad lo diseños que hemos encontrado! Son una pasada! Otra idea que nos ha encantado es la de añadir  elementos como: plumas, lentejuelas o puntillas. El diseño del busto con plumas a modo de tutú nos ha enamorado! ¿Qué os parece?

In the case of wood body busts the best option would be to paint it. Look at the different designs we found!! They are amazing!! Another idea we love is to add some things like: feathers, sequins or lace edging. We fell in love with the bust with feathers as a tutu!! What do you think?

No hace falta decir que este tipo de bustos también son ideales para hacer escaparates (como elemento decorativo) y para hacer alguna sesión de fotos. Fijaos en la foto del catálogo primavera-verano 2013 de la empresa H&M!! RETRO sobre RETRO!!

It isn't necessary to say that this type of busts are perfect to shopwindows (as a decorative object) and to do photo shoots. Notice one of the spring-summer 2013 H&M catalogue photo!! RETRO over RETRO!!

Botellas de vidrio antiguas / Old glass bottles

Holaaa!!! Volvemos con un post un poco cortito pero... interesante!! En esta ocasión vamos a hablaros de botellas de cristal antiguas! Os mostramos los dos tipos de botellas que tenemos en casa: primero las que tienen forma redondeada y luego las que tienen algunos grabados y formas a lo largo del cuerpo de la botella. En cuanto a las primeras, son bastante grandes por lo que podemos colocarlas en el suelo en alguna esquina así como sobre alguna mesa. Este tipo de botellas quedan muy bien en terrazas y/o estancias donde predominen colores tierra o madera.

Hi!! We are back with a short post but...anyway interesting! This time we are going to talk about old glass bottles! We show you the two types of bottles we have at home: firstly the rounded shape ones and secondly engraved bottles. Regarding to the first type, they are quite big thus we can put them on the floor in a corner as well as on some table. This type of bottles fits perfectly in terraces and/or rooms where wood and light brown colors were predominant.

Nosotras las utilizamos como centro de mesa y, a veces, como florero. También hemos visto varias veces este tipo de botellas convertidas en lámparas. En la foto del a derecha os mostramos dos modelos que hemos encontrado por internet, ¿no os parecen originales?

We use them as a centerpiece and, sometimes, as a vase too.  Also, we saw this type of bottles turned into lamps. We show you two models we found online in the right picture.

Por lo que respecta al segundo tipo, son bastantes más pequeñas así que lo mejor es colocarlas en estanterías o sobre alguna mesa. Cada una tiene un grabado, forma y tamaño distinto. Debido a su color, estas botellas lucen mucho más en estancias con paredes y/o mobiliario en colores claros.
On the other hand, the second type of bottles is smaller so the best is to put them on shelves or on some table. Each one has different engraving, shape and size. Because of their colour, these bottles look very nice in rooms with light color walls and/or furniture.

Por otra parte, nos gustaría comentaros que si tenéis algún sifón de los de vidrio...no los tiréis!!! están muy de moda!! ya sea para decorar vuestra cocina, como decoración en algún bar o para escaparatismo! Además,  podríais optar por customizarlos! Mirad las fotos que hemos encontrado...no sé qué os parece a vosotros pero a nosotras nos encantan! Si os decidís por personalizarlos podéis encontrar ideas muy originales por internet! ;-)
On the other hand, we would like to say you that if you have some glass siphon bottle...do not throw it out! At the moment they are very trendy!! Either to decorate your kitchen, a bar or shopwindows. Also, you could choose to customize them! Look the pictures we found..What do you think? We love them! If you are going to personalize them you can find very original ideas online! ;-)

Cámaras de fotos antiguas / Antique Photo Cameras

Hola otra vez a todo el mundo!! volvemos para hablaros de cámaras de fotos antiguas! Así pues... vamos a empezar con aquellas que tenemos en casa y luego os mostraremos algunas que, aunque no las tengamos, nos fascinan!!

Hi everyone again! We are back to tell you about antique photo cameras! Then..let's go to start with those we have at home and later we show you some cameras that fascinate us!!

La primera es la Cámara Univex 120. Esta joyita fue fabricada y diseñada por la Universal Camera Corporation en Nueva York por los años 40. 

The first one is the Univex 120 camera. This little jewel was made and dessigned by the Universal Camera Corporation in New York about the forties.

La siguiente es una antigua cámara de fuelle que me ha prestado mi tío para el post, es una Romockop nº1-ROM3 y creo que con ver las imágenes poco podemos añadir...Es una pasada! No entiendo mucho de cámaras de fotos antiguas pero cierto es que para decorar son geniales. Además, conserva la caja de piel con la que se vendía la cámara y siete placas fotográficas.

The following one is an antique bellows camera which my uncle lend me to the post. It's a Romockop nº1-ROM3 and...an image is said to  be worth a thousand words. It is just great! I don't know a lot about antique cameras but one thing is true..they are fantastic to decorative purposes. Also, he preserves the leather box  which was sold with the camera and seven photographic plates.

Y por último posiblemente una de las cámaras más conocidas, la Werlisa Club Color modelo A. Producidas por Certex en 1973. Estas cámaras se caracterizan por la introducción del plástico tanto para el cuerpo como para las ópticas.
Finally, maybe one of the most famous cameras, the Werlisa Club Color A model. They were produced by Certex in 1973. The main feature of these cameras is that the body and the optical are made of plastic.

Además tenemos el flash que funciona perfectamente.  Esta foto no sabíamos muy bien cómo presentarla y al final decidimos aprovechar para renovar también unas cajitas, más abajo os lo explicamos ;-). Para aquellos que tengáis alguna tienda os recomendamos que utilicéis vuestras cámaras para decorar el escaparate así conseguiréis un toque retro que está muy de moda.

Also, we have the flash which works perfectly.  At the beginning we didn't know how to show you the camera with the flash but at the end we decided to take the opportunity to update some boxes. We will explain you it below ;-). For those who own shops, we suggest you to use the cameras to  decorate  shopwidows. You will get a very trendy retro touch.

También podéis arriesgaros y personalizar vuestras cámaras de fotos, en este caso las estilo Werlisa. Hemos seleccionado tres modelos por internet que nos han llamado la atención y la verdad es que quedan preciosas. ¿Qué pensáis?

Moreover you can risk customizing your cameras, in this case Werlisa style cameras. We chose three models online which attracted our attention and in fact they look like very nice. ¿What do you think about them?

Volviendo al tema de las cajitas, resulta que teníamos dos tal y como se ve en la primera foto y pensamos en actualizarlas para que la foto del FLASH fuera más divertida. A la hora del diseño, nos inspiremos bastante en el aspecto de las famosísimas cupcakes. ¿Os gusta cómo han quedado? 

Coming back to the boxes point, the thing is we had two boxes like the first picture and we thought about update them to get a funnier FLASH photo. The boxes dessign was inspired by the famous cupcakes. Do you like how they look like?

Así que no dudéis en reservarles un huequecito en vuestras casas, ya sea en el salón o en habitaciones, sobre mesitas o estanterías, pueden quedar perfectas!

Then..do not hesitate of keeping some space in your houses, either in the living room or in the rooms, on little tables or shelves, they can suit perfectly!!

Aisladores de cables eléctricos/Electrical cables insulators

Hola primavera y hola a todos!!! Ya está aquí el nuevo post! Esta vez vamos a mostraros unas piezas que tenemos en casa y que también suelen despertar la curiosidad en nuestros invitados. Se trata de unos aisladores antiguos que se utilizaban en los postes eléctricos para sujetar los cables de telefonía, electricidad y telegrafía. Eran utilizados por la compañía de Correos y telégrafos, la Compañía Telefónica Nacional de España y RENFE.

Hi Spring and Hi everyone!! Here you are a new post! This time we are going to show you one thing we have at home and which usually attract our guests attention. It is about some old insulators which were used in electric post to hold phone, electricity and telegraphy cables.  These were used by the post office, the telegraph office, the National  Phone Company in Spain and the Spanish Train System.

Estas piezas son de vidrio y el color que reflejan cuando les da el sol es increíble. Nosotros los tenemos en color verde y transparente pero también hay de otros colores y formas dependiendo de la época y la compañía que los utilizaba. 

These things are made of glass and the colour they refflect when a ray of sunlight touch them is amazing. We have green and transparent ones but there are in other colours and shapes depending on the time and the company which used them.

A pesar de estar huecos por dentro, el vidrio es muy grueso y pesan bastante.

Despite they are hollow inside, the glass is very thick and they are quite heavy.

 

Por lo que he leído, los aisladores de vidrio verde y transparente de la compañía "La Esperanza S.A" eran utilizados por la Compañía Telefónica Nacional de España. Los aisladores están grabados tal y como se ve en la foto. 

It seems to be that green and transparent electrical insulators from "La Esperanza S.A" company were used by the National Phone Company in Spain. The insulators are engraved such as you can see in the picture.

Ahora que ya os hemos comentado un poco la historia de estas piezas, vamos a enseñaros los distintos usos que podríais darle en vuestro hogar: 

Now, with a bit of their history explained, we are going to show you different ways you can use them in your home:

En primer lugar, podríamos utilizarlos como pisapapeles ya que su peso es más que suficiente; y su forma y color, sin lugar a dudas, dará un toque especial al escritorio y/o a la oficina.

Firstly, they could be used as a paperweight since their weight is more than enough. And their shape and colour, undoubtedly, will give a special touch to the desk or  the office.

También se podrían utilizar como sujetapuertas. En este caso el color del aislador destaca bastante con el color de la puerta, de la pared y del suelo. Desde mi punto de vista queda muy elegante, ¿no os parece? Por cierto, no os olvidéis de que es vidrio! Acordaros de quitarlos antes de cerrar la puerta!:-)

Also, we could use them to keep doors open. In this case their colour bring out from door, wall and floor colour. In my opion, they look like very elegant, what do you think? By the way, don't forget they are made of glass! You have to remember to get them out before shutting the door! :-)

Otra opción sería utilizarlos como sujetalibros ya que por su peso y tamaño quedan ideales en las estanterías. 

Another option would be using them as a bookend since their weight and size are perfect for shelves.

Estos han sido los distintos usos que les hemos dado en casa, ¿se os ocurre alguno más?

Por último, buscando por internet, hemos encontrado unas fotos que nos gustaría compartir con vosotros. Se trata de sujetalibros retro que se podrían fabricar fácilmente ¿qué os parecen? 

Finally, searching online, we found some pictures which we would like to share with you. It deals with retro bookend which could be made easily. What do you think about them?

Hispano Olivetti Customizada

Hola a todos!! A pesar de todos los problemitas que hemos tenido...aquí está la entrada! En primer lugar la máquina que vamos a restaurar es una Hispano Olivetti Pluma 22 que, tal y como veis en la foto, está en bastante mal estado. Así pues lo primero que vamos a hacer es tratar de lijar la pintura verde con el objetivo de conseguir una capa lisa. El principal problema se encuentra en las esquinas donde prácticamente no hay pintura y el desnivel es bastante grande.

Hi everyone!! Despite the different small problems we had...here you have the entry! Firstly we are going to restore an Olivetti Pluma 22 typewriter. As you can see in the picture it is in a very bad condition. So the first step is going to be sanding the green paint to get a smooth layer. The main problem is on the corners where almost there isn't paint and the gap is quite big.

Para no dañar la máquina vamos a utilizar un lija fina  y, en este caso, habrá que insistir en las esquinas. Para lijar con mayor facilidad la mejor opción será desmontar la máquina. En este punto, también aprovecharemos para limpiarla a fondo.

In order to not to damage the typewriter we are going to use a fine sandpaper. In this case, we have to insist on the corners. The best option to sand easily is going to be to take to pieces the typewriter. In this point we can clean it in depth.

Una vez tengamos toda la máquina lijada e igualada vamos a pintarla. Hemos escogido un color rosa pastel y un dorado para la tapa.

When we have all the typewriter sanded and leveled, we are going to paint it. We chose a pastel pink colour and gold for the cover. 

Teniendo en cuenta que los topos están de moda, decidimos darle un punto más alegre y actual pintando topos de distinto tamaño sobre la tapa dorada. ¿Qué os parece? ¿os gusta cómo ha quedado?
Taking into account that dots are fashionable, we decided to paint some dots on the cover to liven up and to get an up-to-date typewriter design. What do you think? Do you like the result?

Además de utilizar vuestras máquinas de escribir para decorar salones, oficinas o habitaciones; también es un artículo ideal para decorar escaparates.
As well as using your typewriters to decorate living rooms, work places or rooms, you can use them to decorate shopwindows.
